TEAM SUCCESS STORIES AT CHESTERFIELD

Leena Canoe@2x

LEENA SELECTED FOR TEAM GB

Huge congratulations to Leena De Mul in Year 11, who was selected to be part of the U21 GB Squad in Canoe Polo.

Leena has been playing Canoe Polo now for 3½ years for Friends of Allonby Canoe Club in Collingwood Docks, Liverpool as well as being part of the GB development academy for 2 ½ years. This year Leena was asked to try out for selection to be part of the GB squads. Leena made it through selection and was selected to represent GB in the World Championships in Saint Omer in France. The girls came 5th overall, knocking out Italy and Poland on the way and secured a place for the ICF world championships in Deqing in China in 2024.

Leena trains 3 times a week at Collingwood Docks in Liverpool and 1 weekend a month with the GB development academy. Leena has taken part in various tournaments including De Paddle in Ypres Belgium, The Junior International in Belfast, the Hull International, and the Liverpool International to name but a few. Just last weekend Leena was in London for the Cut the one-day London canoe polo tournament.

Leena would love to see more girls join the sport as in her own words, “I have had the best summer of my life”.

It was an overall amazing experience for Leena that she was chosen to represent for her country and have the national anthem played for the last time as God Save our Gracious Queen. Well done Leena, our school community is so proud of you.

REPRESENTING MERSEYSIDE

Sisters, Eva Holt (Year 10) and Orla Holt (Year 8) have both been selected to represent Merseyside in netball.

This is a great achievement for the girls who also play the same position. Both girls who play for the school team also play and are coached outside of school by ex-pupil Jennifer Winder who runs Chesterfield community netball club and play in the Liverpool league. Well done girls, we look forward to hearing about your success.
